“Merit for Polish Culture” distinction

On October 03. 2024, during opening of the new academic year 2024 - 2025 celebration at Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow I was decorated the "Merit for Polish Culture" honorary distinction.


May 1-4, lecturer at Composer's Scene at Krzysztof Penderecki European Music Center in Lusławice, Poland

From May 1 to 4, along with other renowned celleagues - Polish composers, I was a lecturer at Composers' Scene organized by Krzysztof Penderecki European Music Center in Lusławice, Poland, the place of life-long composing as well as applied dendrological work by Krzysztof Penderecki. The participants were present students of various Polish music universities. Our event was held within Spring De Natura Sonoris Chamber Music Festival 2024. The pieces composed by the participants were performed by the renowned Kwartludium Ensemble during a public concert on May 5, 2024 at Krzysztof Penderecki's Manor.

April 26, 2024, The Ray of All-Whiteness for accordion duo and string quartet (2018) will be performed during 36. Krakow International Festival of Composers in Krakow, Poland by duo Accosphere and AIRIS Qartet.


20th and 21st Century Counterpoint: Olivier Messiaen's Counterpoint during Open Day at AMKP in Krakow

March 14, 2024, 11:30, during Open Day at Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow within my subject 20th and 21st Century Counterpoint I will talk about Olivier Messiaen's counterpoint. The excellent French composer has contributed greatly to the development of contrapuntal and, in broader sense, polyphonic ideas in 20th century music, both by means of continuation of existing ideas and his own concepts and experiments. Among them are politemporal music, counterpoint of musical layers, extremal density of linear texture.


December 6, 2023, The Book of Levers European premiere

On December 6, 2023 at Fontys Academy of Arts in Tilburg, The Netherlands, Jason Alder will give European premiere of The Book of Levers for solo contrabass clarinet. The premiere will open the 12th European Clarinet Congress.


World premiere of The Book of Levers for solo contrabass clarinet

British clarinettist Jason Alder will give the world premiere of The Book of Levers for solo contrabass clarinet (2022-2023), written for him. The premiere will took place in Denver, CO, USA, on 07.07.2023 during International ClarinetFest 2023.

Written in 2013 for Mikołaj Pałosz (Tenderly) Applied Micrology for solo cello has been recommended (as a 'solo piece' category) among total 6 Polish pieces for ISCM World Music Days in the Republic of South Africa in late 2023.


The Ray of Ultimate Whiteness released on CD DUX 1815

The Ray of Ultimate Whiteness (2018) commissioned by Accosphere Duo, Grzegorz Palus and Alena Budzinakova, and written for accordion duo and string quartet has been recently released on a CD DUX 1815 - Accosphere - New Accordion Chamber Music.

Soliloquy no. 2. Landscape of frozen thoughts in Gorzow Wielkopolski

Soliloquy no 2. Landscape of frozen thoughts for solo bass clarinet and 20 string instruments in spatial placement (1999, revision 2007) will be performed on 14th October in Gorzow Wielkopolski during Wojciech Kilar Comtemporary Music Festival.

The solo part will be performed by Michał Górczyński accompanied by the Gorzow Philharmonic Orchestra string members, conducted by Jacek Rogala.


Composer’s residency in les Coves de Vinromà, Spain

My wife Zofia and me have been invited by Fundació Caixa Castelló for a residency in les Coves de Vinromà in Spain between July 11 and July 17, 2022.

 

 


June 10, 2022, Tadeusz Baird Composition Competition Final Concert

On June 10 2022, 18:00, I was in Warsaw as jury member of the 63rd Tadeusz Baird Young Composers Competition held by the Polish Composers Union.

During the final concert of the competition 5 selected pieces for voice and string quartet were premiered.

As it was a specific concert within the composers competition, neither the jury membenrs nor audience knew names of composers of the performed pieces. This ensures, that jury decisions are made strictly upon purely artistic values of the selected compositions.

The names of the laureates were revealed only after the concert, during public announcement of the jury's decisions.

March 16 2022, 22:00.

Ewa Szczecińska, renowned music journalist, in her broadcast entitled New Poland on Polish Radio 2nd Programme presented my spatial ideas in music as well as 3 recent pieces of mine: Air paths. Entangeld echoes for contrabass flute, contrabass clarinet and ensemble (2016-2017), Halfsparkling-Halfdreaming for percussion and piano (2016-2017) and Tract-act for contrabass flute, contrabass clarinet, bass saxophone and orchestra (2021).

Art and Violence International Composition Contest Jury Member

March 10, 2022
I accepted an invitation to the Jury of 'Art & Violence' International Composition Contest. The theme was a circa 10' long piece for a mixed trio: a woodwind instrument, piano and percussion, that would refer to the title idea of the contest.
We awarded 3 pieces: 1st prize, 2nd prize and a distinguish.
The 1st and 2nd prize winning pieces will be performed on April 1st, 2022 in Villa Decius in Krakow, Poland by Spoldzielnia Muzyczna Contemporary Music Ensemble members.


63. Tadeusz Baird Young Composers Contest Jury Member

February 14, 2022.
Invitation to the Jury of 63. Tadeusz Baird Young Composers Contest held by the Polish Composers Union. The theme was a piece for voice and string quartet, to a text by William Shakespeare or Polish poet.
5 pieces were qualified to the second stage, a public premiere concert in late spring this year. Subsequently the Jury will make final decisions and the laureates' names will be revealed.

Personally I'm glad, that all my choices were in accordance with other Jury Memebers and have proceeded to the second run of the contest.


30 October 2021 Warsawind premiered online

Warsawind commissioned by Warsaw Autumn Festival for children audience of 11th Small Warsaw Autumn will have it's online premiere on October 30 on facebook and youtube Warsaw Autumn channel.

From November 6 the whole concert of 6 premiered pieces for children by Polish contemporary composers will be accessible online.

25 September 2021, Tract-act premiered during the final concert of 64. Warsaw Autumn

25.09.2021, Tract-act, topody for contrabass flute, contrabass clarinet, bass saxophone and orchestra in spatial placement was premiered in shortened version during the final concert of 64th Warsaw Autumn International Contemporary Music Festival. This is the second and the main of the two pieces commissioned for this edition of the Festival.

The piece was performed by: Renata Guzik - contrabass flute, Michał Górczyński - contrabass clarinet, Bartłomiej Duś - bass saxophone, Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Robertas Servenikas.

the sound projection of amplificated solo parts was performed by prof. Barbara Okoń-Makowska and Michał Bereza.

 


19 September 2021 Warsawind premiered during Little Warsaw Autumn

19.09.2021, Warsawind for two voices, two pianos, two percussions and audience voices ad libitum is the first of two pieces written this year for commissions from 64th. Warsaw Autumn International Contemporary Music Festival.

Warsawing was performed in Ujazdowski Castle Centre For Contemporary Arts by Joanna Freszel, Dorota Miśkiewicz and Kwadrofonik Ensemble. The concert was directed by Anna Szawiel, who introduced the family and children audience by a wind imitating foreplay into the character of the piece, as expressed by the title.

24.03.2021, during a concert accompanying Synergy of Sound session at the Krzysztof Penderecki Music Academy in Krakow took place the premiere online emission of the new piece Over empty chairs (after Egon Schiele). In memoriam Andrzej Chłopecki and Krzysztof Droba. The piece was performed by Wojciech Kaszuba (piccolo trumpet) and Bartosz Gaudyn (trumpet).
