March 14, 2024, 11:30, during Open Day at Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow within my subject 20th and 21st Century Counterpoint I will talk about Olivier Messiaen’s counterpoint. The excellent French composer has contributed greatly to the development of contrapuntal and, in broader sense, polyphonic ideas in 20th century music, both by means of continuation of existing ideas and his own concepts and experiments. Among them are politemporal music, counterpoint of musical layers, extremal density of linear texture.
