Symphony no.1 for 20 instrument (2003 – 2004)

The piece was written between summer 2001 and spring 2002. This is my first large piece written after my graduation at the Academy of Music in Krakow. I was working on the piece under guidance of Peter – Jan Wagemans at the Rotterdam Conservatory, during my postgraduation studies. For the piece I received a commission from the Warsaw Autumn Friends’ Foundation with financial support of Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung. The premiere took place on September 18, 2002 during Warsaw Autumn international contemporary music festival in Warsaw. The piece was played by the New Music Orchestra conducted by Szymon Bywalec. In january 2006 the piece was performed by the DSO Berlin conducted by Martyn Brabbins at Ultraschall festival in Berlin. The same year the Polish Radio Orchestra ducted by Przemysław Fiugajski made a studio recording for the Polish Radio. In 2009, thanks to European Krzysztof Penderecki Music Centre, the piece was recorded again by the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Przemysław Fiugajski and published on the CD Wojciech Ziemowit Zych orchestral works, published by the DUX recodring company as DUX0722. The score and parts have been published paralelly by the Polish Music Publishers (PWM).
